Three steps to your range estimate

The calculator applies industry-standard efficiency adjustments for temperature, speed, and HVAC load.

1

Enter vehicle specs

Input your battery pack size and the manufacturer-rated efficiency. Both are listed in your owner's manual or on the vehicle spec sheet.

2

Set driving conditions

Select your typical speed profile, current temperature, and whether you are running climate control. Each factor is weighted using real-world EV data.

3

Get your estimate

The tool returns your estimated range alongside a conservative figure to guide charging stop planning on longer routes.

What drivers are saying

★★★★★

"I used this before a 280-mile road trip and the estimate was within 8 miles of reality. The temperature adjustment is especially accurate."

— R. Thornton, Model 3 owner
★★★★★

"Finally a tool that accounts for HVAC load. My winter range was always a mystery — now I can plan confidently."

— S. Amara, Ioniq 6 owner
★★★★☆

"Straightforward and fast. I run it every morning before highway commutes to decide whether to top up at work."

— T. Brandt, Mach-E owner

Common questions

Why does my real-world range differ from the EPA/WLTP rating?
Standardized tests use controlled conditions. Real range depends on speed, temperature, passenger load, HVAC use, and driving style — all of which this calculator accounts for.
What is "usable capacity" and why is it less than the total pack size?
Battery management systems reserve a buffer at both ends of the charge range to protect cell longevity. Typical usable capacity is 82–92% of the gross pack size.
How does cold weather affect EV range?
Lithium-ion cells deliver less power at low temperatures, and cabin heating draws from the main battery. At −10°C, effective range can be 25–40% below the warm-weather baseline.
Is the conservative estimate (-10%) reliable for trip planning?
It provides a reasonable safety margin for most drivers. In challenging conditions (steep grades, strong headwinds, very cold temperatures), consider planning for an additional 5–10% buffer.
Does regenerative braking improve the calculated range?
The efficiency figure you enter already reflects your vehicle's rated energy consumption, which typically assumes standard regen. City driving benefits more from regen than highway driving.
Can I use this tool for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles?
No. This calculator is designed specifically for battery-electric vehicles. FCEV range depends on hydrogen tank pressure and fuel cell stack efficiency, which require different inputs.
